Outrage MK is the Forum’s campaign to preserve the uniqueness of Milton Keynes through the protection of its buildings, infrastructure, landscaping and open spaces. We do not believe that the city should be preserved in aspic but we argue that alterations should be planned carefully to reinforce the special qualities that make the city what it is. We take our cue from two sources:
One example is the way in which the road signs are being replaced. The picture alongside shows an original sign (designed by Milton Keynes Development Corporation) which is part of a series designed to a standard pattern with the information panel suspended between two square section uprights. Such signs are unique to MK - nowhere else in the world has them -and it was a clever design to cater for a wide variety of sign sizes. As they become worn out or damaged they are being replaced by a series of poorly considered alternatives to a wide variety of patterns and with no common theme. The Forum is discussing the matter with the Council.
